On every centralized exchange, the exchange is the custodian. Hyperliquid is the exception: your funds sit on-chain under your own wallet, and the permissions Liquid Edge uses are enforced by the chain rather than by a company's policy. If self-custody is the point for you, this is the venue.
Liquid Edge never takes possession of anything. You create a Hyperliquid API key with read and trade permissions only, and the engine places orders inside the account you already control. It can open and close positions. It cannot move a single coin off the exchange, because withdrawal permission is never requested in the first place.
Withdrawal permission is never requested. Even if the key leaked, funds cannot leave your Hyperliquid account through it.
